SEDA Membrane Operator Certification (MOC) Course

This two (2) module series is designed to educate membrane plant operators on the specifics of membrane applications and operations.  All students must complete Module 1 prior to progressing to Modules 2 in order to obtain a SEDA MOC Certificate.  Each Module includes a comprehensive examination which must be successfully completed.

Module 1 includes the basis of understanding membrane systems.  Topics include:

  • Introduction to Membrane Processing
  • Pressure Driven Membranes
  • Vacuum Driven Membranes
  • Water Supplies
  • Water Chemistry
  • Chemical Dosing
  • Post Treatment
  • Pumps, Pipes, Valves
  • Instrumentation & Control

Module 2 includes detailed information regarding Reverse Osmosis and Nanofiltration systems.  Topics include:

  • Pre-Treatment Chemicals
  • Pre-Treatment Filtration
  • Membrane Designs and Applications
  • Operating Membrane Systems
  • Data Collection and Normalization
  • Troubleshooting
  • Membrane Cleaning
  • Concentrate Disposal

Module 3 includes information regarding Low Pressure Membrane Systems.  Topics include:

  • Introduction to Microfiltration and Ultrafiltration Membranes
  • Pretreatment
  • Operating Membrane Systems
  • Data Collection and Normalization
  • Membrane Troubleshooting
  • Membrane Replacement of MF/UF Membranes
  • Membrane Cleaning

Module 4 includes information regarding Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR) Systems.  Topics include:

  • Wastewater Collection & Reclamation Basics
  • Biological Treatment Basics
  • Pretreatment
  • MBR Operations
  • Blowers
  • Data Collection and Normalization
  • Troubleshooting
  • Membrane Fouling and Cleaning
  • Disinfection: Water Reuse and Discharge
  • Solids Handling – Residuals Management
